Automation agency subscription vs a system you own

Most automation agencies in South Florida sell the same shape: a setup fee, then a monthly plan for automation they operate. This page does the arithmetic on one of them, at its own published prices, and says when that shape is the right buy.

The short answer

An automation agency subscription is the right buy when what you need is a few automations somebody else runs, and you would rather pay monthly than own anything. RAM AI in Miami, read on 24 September 2026, publishes a $1,500 setup and $297 a month on its Starter plan, which is $5,064 in the first year. A system of your own from this studio starts at $2,500, paid once, built in 30-45 days, with the code and the database in your name. The subscription's running total passes that floor in month 4. What you get for each is different, and the rest of the page is about that difference rather than the number.

SHT-02What drives the number

01

What the subscription shape actually sells

A setup fee, then a monthly plan, then the agency operates the automations on its own accounts and tools. RAM AI's page puts it as "Setup is $1,500; Starter is $297/month; Growth is $497/month; Enterprise is Custom, as of 2026-08-30." and says deployments "Standard deployments may be ready in as little as 48 hours after required inputs and integrations are available; timing varies by configuration." That is a real offer with real advantages: it starts fast, it needs nothing from you but inputs, and if it does not work you stop paying. It is the shape most of the agencies on the first page for "automation agency Miami" sell, which is why it is the one compared here.

02

The arithmetic, in the open

First year on the Starter plan: $1,500 plus twelve months at $297, which is $5,064. A build from this studio starts at $2,500 and is paid once, half to book the slot and half at launch. The subscription's running total passes the floor in month 4. That is not the whole comparison, because a system you own has running costs the subscription includes: hosting, a database, a phone number, an email service, all on your own accounts and invoices. Those are subscriptions too, and they are small ones, and they are yours rather than the agency's.

03

What is not in the number

Ownership, mostly. On a subscription the automations run on the agency's tools and accounts; when the plan ends, so do they, and the way the work was done leaves with the agency. On a build, the repository, the database and the payment account were in your name from the first commit, and if the working relationship ends nothing switches off. That is worth exactly as much as the risk that it ends, which is a number only you can put on it.

04

When the subscription is the right answer

When the thing you need is a chatbot, a follow-up sequence or a form that lands in a spreadsheet, and the process it sits on is the same as everyone else's in your trade. That is most businesses, and it is what the subscription shape was built for. It is also the right answer when you are not sure what you need yet: a month of paying for an automation teaches you more than a month of scoping one, and it costs less.

05

When a system of your own is the right answer

When the thing that makes you money is a calculation no product models, when your people retype the same numbers between three tools, or when the workaround has become the process. An automation on top of the wrong record is a faster way to be wrong. A system starts from the record: the job, the estimate, the payment, the rule that decides whether the work earned anything, and the automations are the part that sits on top of that once it exists.

06

What this page is not

A review of RAM AI or any other agency. Nothing here says what their automations do or how well; only what their page publishes about price and timing, quoted with the date it was read. Their offer is a good one for what it is. The point is that it is a different thing from a system you own, and the price is not the axis on which to choose between them.

SHT-05General notes

The questions people actually ask.

N01Is a system you own always cheaper over a year?
On the published figures used here, the subscription's first year is $5,064 and a build starts at $2,500. But the build's floor is a floor, and named pieces raise it, so the honest answer is: cheaper when the floor and one piece cover the scope, and not necessarily when it does not. The estimator on this site adds the published pieces for your scope so you can see which side you are on.
N02Can the two be combined?
Yes, and often should be. A system of your own is the record; an automation agency, or an AI agent built inside the system, is what acts on it. What does not work is an automation on top of no record, which is what a subscription bought before the process is settled tends to become.
N03Why quote one agency and not the market?
Because a market figure nobody can check is the kind of number this site refuses to publish. RAM AI publishes its prices on a page anyone can open, they were read on 24 September 2026, and they are quoted with that date so a reader knows how stale they might be. Their prices are theirs and may have moved since.
N04What are the running costs of a system you own?
Hosting, a database, a phone number if the system answers calls, an email service, payment processing fees. Each is a small subscription on your own account and in your own name, billed to you directly rather than through the studio, so the invoices arrive at your business and the access is yours.

SHT-06Evidence

The systems this argument comes from.

Everything above was learned building these. Each sheet names the business, what the trade's arithmetic actually is, and the file in the repository that proves the capability. No client revenue and no client's customers appear on any of them.
